Do I need to be a developer?
No, the no-code surface is the primary path. The visual schema designer lands Q3 2026; until then, schema is JSON you can paste from a template. Power users still get REST APIs and JS hooks for custom UI.
Where does my data live?
Self-host: on your server — you own 100% of it. Hosted (Pro / Enterprise): Singapore data center (low latency for SEA), encrypted at rest and in transit, with a per-tenant key.
Is there lock-in?
No. Export schema and data as JSON at any time. The self-host version runs the same on your server — moving is one scp command.
When is the public beta?
The engine has been running production single-tenant since May 2026 (internal + one live site on Caddy on-demand TLS). Invite-only hosted beta for the first 200 waitlist users opens in Q3 2026 when the no-code UI lands. Public hosted cloud arrives Q4 2026.
Do I need AI? What does AI actually do here?
No — tafalo5 is a complete app platform on its own (drag-and-drop schema, ACL, encryption, custom domain, rollback). AI is an optional assist that does two things: drafts schema + UI from a plain-language description so you build faster, and maps an existing app's tables/spreadsheets into tafalo5 so moving in is quick. You review and edit everything; AI never ships on its own. Rolling out from Q1 2027.
Will it be open source?
Core engine: MIT-licensed at MVP launch. Hosted version: closed source. Templates + SDK: MIT from day one.
I don't code at all — can I really use this?
Yes, that's the primary audience. If you can create columns in a spreadsheet and write "if A then B," you can ship an app in a few hours. Templates are there to fork.
